Find the Hotel

The only way to get to Austin and the Cozy Mountain Motel is by driving. Austin sits dead center in Nevada on the famous “The Loneliest Road in America,” U.S. Route 50. This makes the motel a perfect, crucial rest point for anyone taking that iconic American road trip. Getting to Austin from points like Reno from the West or Ely from the East takes travelers across some of the most beautiful yet desolate open landscapes in the world in the Great Basin. The motel is on the main highway and has free easy “at-your-door” parking.

If you’re flying in the closest major airport is Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) which lies a little over 3 hours’ driving to the west. Another alternative is the Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas, approximately 4 and a half hours drive to the southeast. Really nothing really gets through to this out of the way part of the state so renting a car at either airport is absolutely essential to get there.

Drive-ready is a must. Many towns only have services strung between them, making it very important to keep a good, running vehicle with a full gas tank before heading out. There’s no bus or train to Austin. The trip is in fact a big part of the attraction with great views and the real feel of complete solitariness and adventure.
